OUTLINE OF INSTITUTE

History

Aug-37 Founded as the Testing Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department,Hokkaido Prefecture Government.
Sep-47 Became an independent institute as the Hokkaido Civil Engineering Institute
Jul-50 Six divisions ( River and Port Engineering, Road, Structure, Dam, Geology and Machinery ) were established.
Apr-59 Three divisions ( Applied Science, Soil Conservation and Special Soil Development ) were established.
Dam Division was renamed Geotechnical Division, and Machinery Division was closed
Apr-62 River and Port Engineering Division was divided into two divisions; River Engineering and Port and Harbor Engineering.
Apr-64 Concrete Division was established.
Apr-66 Pavement Division was established.
Apr-68 Foundation Work Division was established.
May-72 System of three Directors changed to system of four Directors.
Apr-78 General Affairs Department was established.
Apr-79 Fisheries Engineering Division was established.
Apr-85 Special Soil Development Division was reorganized into Agricultural Engineering Division.
May-85 Various research programs were established ( Joint Research, Commissioned Research, Admission of Temporary Researchers and Specially Assigned Trainees )
Apr-86 Research Coordinator was established.
Apr-88 Reorganized the entire body.
Apr-01 Became the Independent Administrative Institution Civil Engineering Research Institute of Hokkaido.
Apr-03 Director for Special Research was established.
Apr-06 Incorporated with Public Works Research Institute and became Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region
